when they do autopsies on wild snakes, they will frequently find other snakes in their stomachs. Also, the smell of the food might still have been on one of the snakes and they might have gone into a feeding mode automatically. Remember that snakes don't have great eyesight, so if it smells like a mouse, it must be a mouse.
