there are people that Do have problems with humidity on subocs. Respitory probs are one of the biggest concerns up here with having water availible at all times on the trans pecos rats. Maybe of the natural humidity of the summer times where I live. I have collected and bred subocs for over 20 years and found the once in a while water in the cage was by far the only way to go. It seems the snake enjoys some humidity but of very low saturation levels. It is found in the natural inviroment the subocs has a low level of humidity in their hiding/den areas. In the wilds of west Texas one doesn't see a whole lot of reptile activity when there is a lot of moisture on or in the area. Not to say some activity before or right after a rain but with a prolonged period of ground humidity the reptiles lack in finding.
My succes has been with the watering of this species with a 5 inch bowl filled halfway up and letting it dry up between watering. So if the water bowl stays dry for over 30 days I don't worry about it. In fact I probably only water this species once a month. I have not ever had a problem with them shedding either. I 've had them shed completly even when they were kept dry.

: ...and I don't ever have shedding problems. I always keep a water bowl in the cage (which I hear some keepers don't) which I assume helps to create a proper environment. During the warmer months of the year, humidity levels run around 40% in my house. I don't know what it is in the cages. I assume the water bowls bring it up a bit. The humidity levels in the winter are much lower because of the heating unit for the house being on, but my animals are in the cold closet now, so I don't think low humidity is much of a concern. Even so, they also have water bowls in with them during brumation.
: With all that said about humidity, I don't have any trouble with my Subocs going off feed or with respiratory problems.
