In Reply to: Help!!! My snake is deficating whole mice. posted by Shawn on January 13, 2001 at 02:26:15:
: i have 2 Russian ratsnakes (Elaphe schrenki schrenki). i keep them in separate enclosures. i keep a temp gradient from about 80F to 85F. my concern is that for the past couple of months one of my snakes has been deficating whole mice the day after i feed her and she continues doing this for several days after eating. she also appears to be losing a substantial amount of weight. can anyone tell me what might cause this? please help.
: thanks
Hey,, Matt is right. Remember these snakes come from far northEastern Russia where the temps are much cooler, 70-75,(maybe 80,but ??), is most likely the warmest it gets even in mid summer. They like cooler temp's and also you got to remember that it's winter there, they are all in hibernation. I've kept them for many years and they don't eat at all from about mid-November till April. And mine have always preferred smaller food items, pink/fuzzy rats they Love.
Rex
: ps i am pretty sure she is not regurgitating the mice
