Everglades tongue.

I've read that Everglades rats snakes tongues are suppost to be red.Mine has a brown tongue.What could this mean? He is captive born and looks like nothing else but an everglades.I'm told it could be an intergrade with another obsoleta.Is this the answer to my question?
