Let me get this strait -
You have captive snakes as pets and/or breeders that you leave for 2 to 3 weeks without checking on?
I'm suprised you have any living animals left in your collection!
If you don't check on your animals every day, or nearly so your inviting disaster.
Maybe you should pare down your collection to a more managable size?

: It's been fairly cool by florida standards the last couple of weeks. Weather warmed up and I decided to feed the snakes. I had not checked on my everglades rats is approx 2-3 weeks. When I opened the cage to feed him, I couldn't believe what I saw. The front half of his body, head to mid body was puffed up, swollen 2-3 times normal size. His mouth gaping wide open as if he was attempting to regurgitate. He was still alive but barely. Where he was swollen, he was very soft as if he'd been filled with air. He died later in the day.
: Any idea what may be the cause? I don't believe mouth rot as he didn't show any of the symptoms. I you feel you know what this was, is it contagious? I'm concerned about it spreading to others in the collection.
: Thanks,
: Mark
