Matt,
I think these are one of the most interesting snakes
available today - BUT! They grow to a large size (I've had 11 foot
specimens) and they are very active with a high metabolism. They
need a very large enclosure in my opinion. Under the proper conditions
they will use every inch of a very large cage. I would never try to kep them
in even a 55 gallon aquarium for instance. They can also be very aggressive,
though not all are. Many offered for sale are imports and they are
often times expensive to get to good health. A 10 foot wild caught Spilotes can
be quiet a handful to say the least.
If you have the space and want to make this one of the few species you keep, and don't mind
dealing with a snake that is very active and may not appreciate your attempts to handle it,
then I would say go to the next step and start to check out breeders/importers. Even though these
are difficult snakes, I personally think the effort is worth while.

: Where I can find these snakes for sale, any pictures, any literature or information about keeping them, etc. I saw them in an article (not sure which issue) of Reptiles Mag. not long ago. The cover of the issue had the translucent frogs on it. These were amoung the most interesting snakes I have seen and I'd like to get some.
: Thanks,
: Matt
