Hello Glenn. Importing Asian reptiles are like gambling. First you need a good contact over there, to be sure that they send what you want. This often means that you should visit them regulary just to show them that you afford to go there if something happens. Second, many reps dies in shipping or short after due to dehydranation. So preparation before shipping and how to pacvk them are important. For exampel, many ssp can not be packed in the usally textilbag. Instead I send over plastic boxes for them to pack in.
When shipments arrive the first thing to do is to get to drink. I usally let snakes go in a inch of water in a catlitbox for the first 24 hours. I keep them all separated as much as possible.
Every third day I repeat this water terapy.
After they have settle down and not are dehydrated I offer them some food. When they have eaten at least twice I deworm them. First with a mild component such as Axillur). After two weeks I repeat the deworming with some wider medic, such as leveriperciocol. If they have problem with mouthroot I give them vitamin C and cleanuot the infected area. As a last resort I use Baytril for infections. I have been forced to use any Flagyl or M-trylvet on my imports. For many Asian ssp Flagyl is the same as dead. I keep all imports at 24 degress at day and 20 at night. Using this technique my losses are about 10% in every shippment. This I think is accaptable.
The frenata and porphyr are sold to VMSherps in Denver. If you want I can get more of them. Please email me for more info at anitakent@telia.com
