Obviously, some brumation doesn't hurt the snakes, and there's a variety of opinions to this answer, but corn snakes at least can go without brumation. Personally, I like to brumate my adutlts for about three months at 50 to 60* F.
As far as the Baird's go, a similar brumation is probably even more appropriate. There hasn't been too much talk about the Baird's on this Forum. I'm basing my opinion on a group I had several yrs. ago, and the environment they live in in the wild.
Being as you live in the UK, Lee, I would say brumation could take place anywhere between October and March. Like Dean, I like to start the actual 3 mos. at cool temps around Thanksgiving, or into December.
It depends on which species, however, and I have around ten or twelve. Some start as early as September, which you can do if you have cool enough temps. Some species you can keep going until winter, which I generally do if it is possible. Good luck.
