: : I have been incubating 13 Grey Ratsnake eggs for about 60 days. They are the first set of eggs I have obtained. In the last couple of weeks I have noticed that the white outside of most of the eggs has started to sort of stretch, leaving a membrane through which I think I can see the hatchlings inside. But the eggs seem very hard to the gentle touch and nothing else appears to be happening. I am beginning to get worried that they are not ok. Can someone give me a description of how the eggs should look as they come up towards hatching? I would be very interested. J

: The ratsnake eggs-that I just hatched out were also very hard to the touch. this is my first clutch of rat snake eggs-so I can only tell what I learned.
: The eggs showed no aparent changes in appearance-esp the slugs started to change colors-there were 3 of them.
: the good eggs stayed nice and white and firm-although a few-got-well they looked dented the day before hatching-even thought the baby hadn't cut through yet.
: The bad eggs-turned yellow and brown-they didn't smell though.
: the eggs took 58 days to hatch and some are still not hatched(2 of them) yesterday was 60 days.
: I let the temp very some from 75 to 85 F so I expected some late comers. 80 % of the time they stayed at 85 F.
: and that's about all I can tell you. I sure won't give up on them-as my one kingsnake took 70 days and what a fiesty little monster he is.

Thanks for both those replies. Sounds like they are probably ok. I will stop spraying them but make sure they stay moist. And continue to keep my fingers crossed.
