In Reply to: HELP !! ANYONE KNOW ABOUT "RUSSIAN RAT SNAKES" ?? posted by MIKE on August 11, 2000 at 19:35:10:
These are really fun snakes...we have three
(one breeding pair & one male in search of a lady
friend). I'll let Terry give you the real detailed
info on them, but here's a quick overview.
They generally like it a little cooler than many snakes,
ours get VERY unhappy when the high end of the tank
goes over 85. They are pretty active & like to spend
time streched out, so get as long a tank as you can
afford. Ours like to be handled a great deal. All are
avid feeders...do not recommend feeding them every time
they are hungry...ours would eat every single day, including
while shedding if given the chance. Definitely provide
a water bowl for soaking...and playing, which our one seems
to like to do. They also like the water if they get too hot.
There is a ton if info out there on these guys. If you
go to reptile (or even large pet store) any snake encylcopedia
or rat snake books seems to have a section on them
Enjoy!
