The previous post was correct about Ohio Law concerning herps....We live in Ohio and are familiar with the new laws on herps...
The State of Ohio now protects "all indigenous/native reptiles" -it is illegal to catch a wild reptile and keep it as a pet/or sell it. If you already owned a black rat before the law went into effect you must have a permit to even keep one legally this can be obtained thru application to the state -the Dept of ODNR (Ohio Dept of Natural Resources) The paperwork was such a hassle i had to give up my sucessful western foxsnake breeding colony that i have kept for the past 12 years...There are lots of ratsnakes that make great pets are not protected by the state and thus would be much easier on you as keeper to maintain legally, not to mention most wild caught snakes tend to be more aggressive and may not settle comfortable into cage life.
