In Reply to: Aging Corn Snake with Behavior (eating, shaking) problems posted by Peter on June 17, 2000 at 16:36:56:
Have you ever had a fecal done on him? I know you bought it as a baby but I've seen this behavior exactly as you describe it in Cali Kings and it was a massive parasite infestation. I saved one King but not before the other one had died from this right before my eyes.
BTW rats and mice are the middle "man" for some types of worms. They have to go through a host animal then come to your snakes.
: I bought a baby corn snake in 1990 and have never had any sort
: of problems with him. He always eats regularly, is tame, and
: generally is a wonderful pet.
: In the last five weeks he has only managed to eat one mouse,
: and every other time I've tried he hasn't been interested at
: all. Today when I got back from the pet store with another
: attempt (mouse) after I plinked the mouse (to knock it out)
: and tossed it in, I noticed that my snake was acting very
: strangely: his movements weren't as smooth as normal, and he
: seemed to be shaking (not vibrating back and forth as you
: would if you were cold, but just non-smooth movements). Then
: he started to go in circles, so that his head was on top of
: his body (which I've seen him do before) but then the strangest
: thing -- he started biting himself in the middle of his body
: repeatedly. Not hard, mind you, but biting nonetheless.
: Is my snake just getting too old? Is there something wrong
: with him? Is there anything I can do?
: Any help is greatly appreciated.
: Thanks,
: Peter
