I've had my snakes between 3-6 yrs. One pair (male 6 yr captive, female 3 yr) reproduced for me last year (clutch of 6), still waiting to see if she'll deliver again this year but palping her doesn't indicate she is. She laid on the clutch in late July last year. This pair is in a cage next to my computer desk at home and they are extremely inquisitive whenever I'm on the computer, coming all the way out of their hidebox to investigate the commotion. Not real thrilled to be handled though, but they do not thrash about when I do.

I'm sure they'll take DOR kangaroo rats as one of the adults regurged a k-rat in the snake bag right after I caught it. I have also heard of folks having a wild-caught suboc eat once or twice, then they refuse and crash and burn. I don't know how these folks kept their snakes though. Sounds like you're on the right track, however. I wouldn't really start to worry for a while still. I've had one adult refuse for as long as three months before, but then the stars and planets come back into alignment or something benign like that and for some strange reason, they just start eating again. I think the pink rats is a good call and I would run the gamut of the small mammal buffet available to you before drastic measures (i.e., force feeding). I'll wager a small nestling bird might also instigate some responses, though I've never had to try. It must be just dumb luck that my snakes have done well for as long as they have, as it certainly isn't my "innovative" husbandry skills! I don't provide any heat, and like I said before, I have water available at all times. I'm not sure what other "hints" I could give you. Anybody else?

fingers crossed for you!
