Hi Tracey
Buying unknown snakes from a pet store isn`t th best entering the interesting experience that our hobby brings.
Not only are wild caught Asian snakes always filled with verious parasites and suffers from different desiases, but there is more within this subject:
To get the largest fullfilling experience with any snake you need to give it the best possible terrarium specially designed for this species, and that isn`t possible if you don`t know excactly what species it is, and allready read and prepared a lot before you deside to buy this particular snake.
Another problem is that there are often imported (at least in Europe) snakes tacked as "cornsnakes" or similar, and it turns out to be something totally different. I saw a shipment imported to Denmark listed as Elaphe bimaculata once, but it was Rhapdophis tigrinus...... These snakes posses a deadly toxic venom.
There are so many captive bred animals for sale. Buy those in stead and recieve a fully description on how to keep them from the breeder, or visit him/her and see for yourself how they are kept.
I just want you to get the best introduction to our lovely and fascinating hobby.
Best wishes
Søe
