: Hi, Dave. That's a very interesting point. Although I'd don't keep Baird's any more, I do have considerable experience with Schulz' methods. I believe his information about breeding to be quite accurate and most of the time based on his own personal experience. With Baird's there may be some of us Americans that have more experience, but I don't have any literature offhand. When I had these guys their eggs hatched at the normal temps, described by Schulz.

: One thing we need to remember here, which is pointed out by Schulz in his general discussion, and by other authors. There are ranges of temps. and dates, etc, that we are dealing with, because these things can vary, and we don't always know all the factors. For instance, temps in my Herp Room, may drop to 75*F at night, and in someone else's may stay at a constant 83* because of the way their incubator is set. Whose will hatch first? Temperature dependent, thus a range of times. With snakes that I currently have I'm almost always within the ranges given by Schulz, but I know I'm usually going to be at the high end for time.

: You didn't say how long your Baird's clutch had gone so far, or about how you're incubating them. I'd say you're probably near the high end, like maybe 75-80 days, and you're starting to get worried. My advice (for what it's worth) is to stay calm. Providing all other variables are OK, they should hatch within the time frame. Do the eggs look, OK? Let us know what happens, Terry.

Hi Terry, Thanks for the info. Today, Mon, is day 59 for the Baird's eggs, and no sign of pipping. They are incubating in vermiculite in a cooler on bricks over water. The temps range from 80-83 and have stayed within that range throughout their incubation. Though I didn't keep daily records this year of incubation temps, there haven't been any unexpected highs or lows.
