: I've got this mite problem that I'm working on. I've got a grey ratsnake which suffers the most from the mites, I'm treating him with stuff the ved gave me, some poison that I brush on him. The snake has lost a of weight and is still refusing food. He will shed in the comming week so that could explain why he's lost his appetite.
: Can his eating problem also have something to do with the mite problem??? Can mites kill a snake in the long run???
: I've found this article for those who care

: I have had a number of "run ins" with mites. I have tried a number of treatments, the ones that worked for me....are soaking (tedious and time consuming), cooking oil ( sounds weird but it works, can make the skin go strange until the next shed. Especially good, with any other treatment you may use, for getting the mites which lodge in the "brille". The treatment which is easiest and seems to work every time, is to use a product called "Frontline" ( That's what it is called in the UK, I think the active ingredient is Fipronil, I will check and post later. I wipe the animal down plus the cage. It is designed for flea control in cats and dogs. It works a treat on mites in snakes!!

Mark
