: Does anyone know the difference between grey and brown Baird's Rat Snakes? Is it locality (Texas vs. Mexican), genetic lines, individual differences born in the same litter, or what?
Hi,
I've seen a fair amount of locality bairds and the ones from the Davis Mts. tend to be darker ground color (I would call it greenish-grey rather than brown)as opposed to the grey-blue ones from the Val Verde area. I have seen adults from the Langtry area which were a straw yellow color with retained juvenile blotches that were rust colored. Like a lot of species they can be variable. Jim
