Most of our snakes are kept on news paper. We also use a wood product called Sani-Chips. These are very small heat treated flakes of wood that are easy to clean out and are guaranteed free of mites and other bugs. They claim it is digestable and I have had snakes injest some of it, but I wouldn't believe that it is. It is a great product though.
