Sounds like your specimen might be undersized for his age, if it's a year old and still feeding on fuzzies! How big is it now? My own experience and also a friend's is that at that age it should be around five or six feet long and feeding on adult mice at least, if not half grown rats. That being said, I bet you can stuff your guy at every 5 to 7 days without any harm, but given it's probable growth deficiency, there wouldn't be too much harm in feeding it more often like you seem to be doing now, if the temperature permits. It's hard to put too much fat on these things, since they are active colubrids.
