In Reply to: One of my E. situla girls looks gravid...question posted by IndyShark on May 06, 2003 at 19:05:23:
I was talking about. This is a Leopard Rat snake (Elaphe (Zamenys -spelling ?:)) situla from the peninsula Crimea, Ukraine. The Leopard Rats from Crimea usually have less colorful, orange (not red) spots and eyes than the specimens from Italy, Greece and former Yugoslavia (the one posted by Nazza), even almost completely grey specimens are known there as well as striped morph. The Crimea is totally isolated and far enough from the main part of their distribution range, I even remember to read a theory that the Leopard Rats and Mediterranian geckos were introduced there by ancient Greeks, whose rests of culture and towns are found in Southern Ukraine.
:That's a pretty snake! What is it and can you post some more pictures please?
