Many snakes live in the same holes in the wild, so why not in captivity? I have kept milksnakes and fox snakes together (both male, the fox bigger than the milk); hognose, garters, redbellied and brown snakes together (not all at the same time). I havent had any problems.
But like Jonathon said, I dont think putting two snakes from the Rat snake group together would be such a great deal, though he says that 2 females would be fine.
I Also agree with the idea NOT to let snakes from different continents or regions share quarters. And if you do put different species together, that means you are committed to keeping them. Dont catch a wild snake, put it with other captive snakes, and then release the wild snake again. Too much risk of trasporting illness into the wild AND to your captive snakes. Remember to quarentine any new snakes.
Good luck. Get a Bairds - they're cool!
