I'm no expert but I have been keeping ratsnakes for almost two years now so I hope my advice helps.
It is usual to feed one item, once a week, even though your snake will probably take more if offered. This isn't a good idea as problems can occur once prey starts backing up in the gut.
As to the size, you're best off with something about the size of the widest part of your snakes body. Without seeing the snake I can't tell you what this will be but guessing with the length I'd say an adult mouse is about right. I have a two year old on small mice, a 3 footer on adult mice and two 4.5 footers (about 4 and 6 years old) feeding on weaner rats. Like I say, compare the item to the widest part of your snakes body and choose something to suit your own needs.
