In addition to anaphalactic shock There is at least one documented instance of actual envenomation from a feeding responce bite by a wild eastern hognose.A researcher who had been working with toads came across the snake and picked it up with the toad scent still on his hands. The snake promptly sunk its rear teeth into his thumb.Symptoms were pretty serious with quite a bit of swelling of the arm and much pain.Even when the patient was released from the hospital he experienced pain in the arm for six months following.
