Hi Jim...Breeding Russians is straight forward. The best thing to know is that they are very hardy and need a fairly lengthy hibernation at a very cool temp. I put my adults down at 45-55*F,
for minimum three months, or up to five months.
I try to gear it so they come out in March or April when the humidity is coming up and there is a spring thaw. They can sense the seasons and are geared toward a short season. Breeding is easy, but you hardly ever see them locked up. I think they might do it at night or under cover. After the female's first shed put her in with the male. Leave them together for a couple of weeks, then you can take her out and try again later. Or, you can leave her in until she is obviously gravid. Mine have always bred and the eggs are pretty easy to hatch. Good luck and let us know how you do. Terry
