Excellent points Terry. I find conversation on classification fun too, and like you I don't get bent over it. Like you pointed out in so many words, the snake didn't change, just the name. Much debate going on now between the disciples of the molecular species concept x the biological species guys. Personally I think all data should be considered without excluding data from any resourse. To me, the whole idea is to better understand the relationship of one organism when compared to another.
The bull snake situation is another great example. Regardless of what any academic says, to me a bull is not a gopher or a pine :)
