I have to agree with Kestrel on this one. I too have kept numerous snakes on various bark substrates for years and have never had impaction problems. Also, I work at a zoo and all of our snakes are housed in exhibits with substrate and to date none have ever suffered impactions from ingesting substrate. We could go around and around about what method is better, but like Kestrel said, do whatever works for you.
