The scutellation of E. t. taeniura and yunnanensis overlap considerably but taeniura USUALLY has supralabials 5 & 6 contacting the eye, while yunnanensis USUALLY has 4 & 5 contacting the eye (but unfortunately taeniura sometimes has 4 & 5 and yunnanensis sometimes has 5 & 6). Also while taeniura has one subocular scale, the majority of yunnanensis have no suboculars (but some do). But if it's missing a subocular, it's yunnanensis. Sorry to not be of more help - if you send me a photo of the snake and esp. a close-up of the head, I could try to identify it.
:Ok so i have a 5 foot or so freak beauty snake, from where it was collected i would say its taeniura or a yunnanensis. However because its a freak, I can not tell by pattern or color.
:Does anyone have a scale count on the subspecies? It would really help me. I will post pictures of it once I figure out what it is.
