i didn't know that i sent those in to my web guy to be posted : )
that is a new approach we are taking, trying to address some of the coxi issues. i will break it down into detail later, after we see how successful it is. but basically...
we are adapting our monitor lizard approach. that is a soil. there are three hide spots (burrows), all man made. there is a basking light on the top.
the setups are in the colubrid/Gila room, where the temps are headed for 55 F. at the same time, the basking light provides a temp gradient in the cage to allow for a choice of temperatures.
in the past couple of years, we have had females drop eggs in the middle of cooling. those eggs were no good, because there were no usable temps to allow for egg development. Dr. Klingenburg bred a female once last year, and ended up getting three clutches, stretching into the new year. i am thinking that perhaps these weird little guys may breed year round, 3, or maybe 4 clutches.
they eat like champs, keep great weight, and are simple to keep. they need cool temps, in a moist environment. the soil setups provide that, plus a temp gradient.
now we watch the animals, and see what happens.
basically : )
