Try filling the aquarium with about 3' of cypress mulch. I read an article on captive husbandry of mandarins several year ago. These snakes like dark, secretive, and humid conditions. The particular breeder that wrote the article, kept all of his animals in rubbermade racks with several inched of mulch. He also stated that the temps were on the cool side of normal colubrid standards, which are in the mid 70's for the high. W.C. animals will do better if left undisturbed for many months, other than typical cleaning and feeding.
I don't have experience with this species, but thought to share what I have learned about them. Robyn would be the man to ask, as Pro Exotics has done very well with these beautiful snake.
