Ratsnake stink and other big questions (novice...)

Ok, here's the deal:

I walked into a pet shop to buy the last heat pad I needed so that each of my snakes would have one. I had $23 and the heat pad was $13 with tax. Then, I saw this cage containing a small ratsnake which read "Prarie Ratsnake, $20, NOT TAME..." Naturally I inquired about the snake. It was given to the pet shop by "some guy" and it's origin is "unknown", as well as gender, age, and species. The woman said it looked more like a prarie KINGsnake, but it has the head exactly like a ratsnake. I know nothing of ratsnakes, but told them I'd give them the whole $23 for it and the heat pad, and they seemed happy to get rid of the little thing.

Now, not only do I know what kind of ratsnake it is, I don't know if it is healthy, WC or CB, and strangely, I don't know why it smells SOOOOOOO bad!!! I bathed it and it still smells wretched! I own kings, corns, and milks and none of their musk smells like the ratsnake. Could it have a disease, or is this what I need to get used to?

I searched for information about prarie ratsnakes, but they don't seem to exist... I looked at other ratsnake pics, but don't see any matches. I'll post a picture as soon as possible. If it is WC, I live in South East Texas if that helps...

Any info would be greatly appreciated, as well as anything I should know about keeping a ratsnake as opposed to kings, corns, and milks. Thanx to all who respond... Pic will be availible soon, if not within the hour. (Digi cam problems...)

P.S.- I didn't realize that ratsnakes had their own forum, so this is also posted in the Corn forum...
