Pierson, you have three of the same ones I have, plus I have bimaculata, situla, moellendorffi, and mandarina. All seven of them rattle their tails from time to time, especially the more nervous ones, like mandarina and moellendorffi. Sometimes the moells get bt. the glass and their plastic hides and go off sounding almost like a rachet putting nuts on a tire. My Chinese stripe-tails sometimes get a little nervous and do the same, probably 'cus I hardly ever handle those.
The thing that I notice even more about the Asians, though, is that they pretty much smell the same. I get musked quite often. My schrencki and dione are very tame, but they can all do it when they're nervous and being held, like when they've been in hibernation. The moells are especially odiferous when they let loose. I usually have to put them right back in their cage it's so strong. This is one of the things that link them, IMHO.

:Really? That's interesting. I don't have any experinece with Mandarins so I've never witnessed their tail rattling. Actually, the only Asians I've ever had that tail-rattled were my Diones. My taeniura and schrencki didn't have any sort of defensive reactions that I can recall.
