Tongue Colour in Japanese Rats...

Anyone else notice that these guys change tongue colour as they age? Mine were a rose colour when I got them, and now they're developing black tips... I was reading a paper on snake tongue structure that used japanese rats, and the adults pictured had jet black tongues from apex to base.
Are there other snakes that have similar development? I mean my corns and kings change skin colour, but their tongues are pretty much the same.
