you know i had the same experiance once.. except mine was just with some cuban anoles that i bought.. i must of been around 12 when i got it.. i had absolutely no info other then what i found in an old anole book.. it ended up dieing, and i was horribly upset. after that i always made sure to know my info before buying something, instead of wasting my christmas money on an impulse buy.. hehe.. i've hated petcos and petsmarts since..
:Way back when I bought my very first reptile from a local Petco. It was a Sudanese Plated Lizard. I must have been 15 or so at the time...they sold me a 20G long aquarium, hot rock, and a prefabricated "hide" along with some astroturf-type bedding. They sent me home with NO information about the lizard at all. Hey, I was just a kid, what did I know about proper animal husbandry?
:This lizard must have been 18-20 inches long and very thick bodied. The poor guy didn't even have room to turn around comfortably in the aquarium. The first time I really inspected him, I found he had a large infected abcess on his underbelly and wounds on his tail from either rodent bites or bites from his cagemates.
:I ended up exchanging him for a pair of Cuban Anoles, which lived about 2 years before I donated them to the science department at a local university. I've come a long way since then, and now I will absolutely never patronize Petco, Petsmart or any other large chain type petstore.
