I saw a black rat out in December one time. I was out rabbit hunting, and I'm sorry to say that the guy I was hunting with shot it. That was over 20 years ago, but I recall that it was a warmish day for December. However, it didn't seem nearly warm enough that one would think of a snake venturing out from its den site.
