You can see 5' "monster" black rats crossing country roads on any given day here in western Kentucky during the right time of the year. A lot of the times you see where they didn't quite make it too. If you get lucky, you see them pushing 6'. I collected a [nearly] 6' one from caldwell last summer. I have posted these pics here before, but since you might not have seen them I'll post them again.


I really love Kentucky Black Rat Snakes and all, but I have seen so many of them through the years. I would like to be able to take a 5 minute drive down the road and find a similarly sized Yellow Rat Snake to the Black Rat pictured. Again, that's the "grass is greener on the other side of the fence" mentality in me.
