There has been three mutations of Gray Banded Kings originating at Black Gap. Anerythristic, hypomelanistic and patternless as well as at least two silver Trans-Pecos Rats. The patternless was wild caught and the anerys and hypos came from I believe wild caught or F1 specimens. The hypos are true genetics, they may even be t+ amels, the black is normal in pattern but a light wax brown and the gray is like lavender/gray wax. The Trans-Pecos Rats were wild caught, one of them by me. It is axanthic. There is no yellow on it despite the poor pics you may have seen. Whether it is simple reccessive has yet to be proven. Black Gap is 26 mile stretch of road. There has probably been less than fifty Gray Bands collected there total ever. I don't know why both these mutations showed up here but percentage wise that equals about 2% of the collected population are mutants. Certainly remarkable and maybe unbelievable except that most alterna hunters are very anal about locality and Dan Johnson the originator of the mutants has an impeccable reputation.
Also on FM170 the River Rd. there has been two mutant Trans-Pecos Rats collected. A full pink-eyed amelanistic by Dave Long, the Barkers are now producing these, and another amelanistic by Tim Egan, I didn't see it in person but I saw pics and it looked different from Dave's snake, kinda purplish background like a t+ amel.
The list of mutants goes on. I have found a hypomelanistic Pacific Gophersnake near Bakersfield. My friend Shannon found an anerythristic Longnose snake in Nevada. Shannon and I collected in June this year a Bullsnake on Hwy. 277 that appears to be axanthic as well as we found a DOR Emory's Rat with a zigzag pattern. My friend Brad Alexander found an amelanistic Mojave Rattlesnake.
Other mutants found in the wild have been 2 albino Rosy Boas at Whitewater Cyn., an anerythristic Coastal Rosy Boa and a Lavender Cal King.
