The frogs are doing great in the area, as are the other species of snakes. I know what you mean by indicator species, and in fact, in many ways I think the habitat is better than any time in my life time.
As for shear number of snakes seen, this was far and away the most productive year I have ever had. There has also been a great diversity, with 20 different species seen. After thinking about it, I think it was probably just chance that fewer live obseleta's were seen this year. I guess I should add that I also seen perhaps a dozen DOR's. I will note how their numbers are next year though.
