: : I tried to feed my king an adult mouse, but he just couldnt eat it. He tried but just couldnt. Seems to me his jaws just wont accomodate an adult yet. He can eat a juvenile (small adult) or a large hopper and that is about it. The rat that is a year younger is eating the same size prey with no problems and will be eating adult mice I would say within the next few months. Just a thought. Maybe I have a strange king or something. LOL :My Black Rat snake :My California King snake
: I was feeding my snakes today and was just wondering something. My 14 month old black rat snake is 38" long but thin, typical rat snake. My 26 month old california king is also 38", but twice the thickness as my black rat. The black rats head is the same size as the kings. I have a corn snake that is the same age as the king and a good 10" longer and even thicker and his head is twice the size as the kings. The corn gets 2 adult mice every 6 days and the king gets 2 juveniles on the same days. Now my black rat gets 2 juveniles every six days as well. Now the question I have is you guys out there that have california kings and rat snakes, does your rats seem to be able to eat bigger prey items than the kings of the same age?
