:I really want to thank everyone who has posted in this thread. It has been very educational and civilized. I can't tell you how pleasent that has been to read. For my part, I suspect that the American Elaphe, Lampros and Pits may all have a common "Elaphe-like" ancestor that crossed into NA from Asia. I would also agree that the NA Elaphe, Lampro, and Pit bring up some serious questions about how we define genus and species, at least as far as they are concerned.
: I think this has been a great discussion and I am really thrilled that no one has fallen into knee-jerk emotional reactions or rhetoric. Thank you all for a great discussion.
