Becky,
Good choice buying from Kathy Love. You'll have an excellent quality animal. I have two Taiwan Stripe-tail Ratsnakes that are each about one year old. The male is approximately 5 feet long, while the female is slightly less. Currently each is housed in a 260 gallon reptarium, stood up on end. In case you didn't know sizes on Reptariums, the 260 gallon measures 29 x 29 x 72. I have numerous climbing branches and have found that the Taiwans are highly arboreal and will spend most of their time high up in the branches. Temperatures should be kept within the range of mid to high 70's into mid 80's. Interestingly, a couple sources I read in the past said they needed to be kept cooler than other species of ratsnakes. I monitored the weather conditions in Taiwan this whole summer via weather.com, and found that Taiwan experienced pretty much the same temperatures as I was experiencing where I live in Chicago. So, I'm not to sure about the validity of that that information. As far as other information like feeding and such, try not to over do it. They will eat almost every three days if you let them, but try to keep them to once a week as juveniles and every 10 to two weeks as adults. I've been keeping mine on a one week feeding schedule but since they're now reaching adult proportions, I will be scaling them back to about every ten days or so. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions about care. Also, I noticed you'd been to the expo in Chicago (Tinley Park). If you can make it, I'd suggest attending meetings of the Chicago Herp Society. They're held once a month at the Notebaert Museum off Fullerton. Check out their website at chicagoherp.org Anyway, good luck with your new aqquistion.
