Read Kathy Loves section on glades rats on Cornutopia, and you will read that the type specimens of rossalleni had red tipped black toungues. The other charactoristics that Ross Allen and W.T. Niel listed sound very similar to these so called intergrades which are said to be about the only obsoletas even found in south Florida these days, and that was in 1949.
There are very many different color variants of yellow ratsnakes, and bright reddish orange is only one of them. If I was trying to aquire a true knock-out everglades I would be more concerned with the scale coloring than how red the toungue is.
