I finally decided if he was stupid enough to drown himself to try and hide from me that I was going to let him. Sometimes he stayed under for astonishing amounts of time. I don't know how long a rat snake can hold it's breath, but it's a long time.
:By the way, he had a dedicated hide box in his enclosure, but he seemed to prefer his water bowl.
Their leucistic texas rats and they do the same thing. After feeding they go into their water bowl and stay under the water for incredible amounts of time. The first time they did it I took them out of the water bowl because I got nervous but now I know they will come up for air when they need to. I wasn't sure if I just got some weird behaving rats. It's nice to hear that other's rats do the same thing. Have a nice day, Scott.
