This intergradation theory has been kicking around for quite some time now. Having grown up in South Florida in the late 60's , I have caught and seen plenty of "glades" rats and yellows. You could commonly collect both color phases in the same row of trees or pump houses. Now does this mean this is when the mixing of the "subspecies" began? Who knows? One thing I do know is that I personally collected one of my most beautiful glades phase near an orange grove in Fort Pierce, Florida back in the early 70's. If you check your map, you'll find this is quite a bit north and east of their alleged "range". I personally believe the "glades" rats are simply a color variant that was more common in certain locales. The same thing goes for the "miami phase" corns. Certain areas of Dade County have a greater number of this color variant. That said, I'll take those folks at their word when they say the glades rats are becoming scarce, as I don't wish to deal with the trespassing issues necessary to hash this one out.
