In MY limited experience (and in talking with others who own elaphe taeniura ssp.) the large asian elaphes all tend to be high strung. Of course there are variations between species and even in individuals but in GENERAL... a little high strung. It's my understanding that cave rats tend to be one of the most irritable and likely to bite of the group. I used to own a pair of friesei and while they were wiggly and hard to hold onto they didn't bite. My cave rat snake will sit "calmy" on my hand all puffed up and strike at my face if I blink. God forbid I ever put him on the ground for a few seconds of freedom and THEN try to pick him up, attack, attack, attack ! Beautiful animals but definately not a "pet".
I'm curious to hear from others what their experiences are/were with asian elaphes too so...........
