The most common name I hear here in Houston is "the big black snake out of my porch" or "that huge snake that walked across the sidewalk" lol. Most people do not even bother to know what species they are it seems. I pulled over on a busy street here in houston (Memorial Drive for anyone that knows the area) and rescued a 5 ft texas rat from the tires of others. The thing bit me and a few people asked if I needed a ride to hospital as they were under the impression I had foolishly saved and grabbed a copperhead lol. They take the time to learn the ones that can kill them, and then casually lump most other snakes into the same category. Anyway, glad you figured out your question! Andy
