: The red chicken snake is the name the locals in rural Ky refer to the corn snake as. To our knowledge, no one has ever established a captive breeding program for this locality which is isolated from the main range of the corn snake. That has now changed.
Thank you Phil,
That explains it. I have heard of Chicken snakes all my life but never was quite sure if they were maybe refering to Bull snakes,Fox snakes or Rat snakes. I always leaned towards rat snakes.
My main problem is there is absolutely no one around here to talk to about snakes or any other reptiles. There is only one store in the area that deals in reptiles and although they take excellent care of their animals and seem to have extensive knowledge on husbandry, it is just too hard to get them to spend any time talking about it. They seem to have little tollerence for people like me who are less knowledgeable. Not stupid mind you just less knowledgeable.
I have no friends, family or co-workers who keep snakes or any other reptiles for that matter. They all think I am strange.
That is other then the friends I make via the internet.
Jimmy
