bizarre dead in egg baby Spilotes (pic)

Well, my Spilotes female double clutched without ever being with a the male again…and I started out with 13 eggs from that clutch. One by one they went bad, until I had only 5 left.

To my surprise…they started hatching. I got several nice babies…but the last one just wouldn’t pip. I opened it and found a fully formed, dead baby.

…but imagine my shock when I saw THIS thing !!
