We adopted an Emory's rat snake from the local herp society. He was previously in a fifth grade classroom, and was abused to the point that he became agressive and bit a student. He's calming down quite nicely with our daily handling, and loving care, but there are a couple things which he does that bother me.
First off, he spends almost all of his time in his water dish. We have corn snakes, and beauty snakes in the exact same setup who don't do this. The temp is pretty stable at about 70 at the cool end where the water is, and anywhere from 75-85 at the warm end depending on the weather. He doesn't appear to ahve mites, and we don't see any in the water, so I don't think that is it, and none of our other Elaphe seem to have any problem with the humidity. He seems healthy and happy, it just worries me that he spends so much time in there (aside from the fact that it's annoying to handle a snake that is always wet).
The other thing, and I think we may just have to live with. The zipper on his reptarium drives him completely nuts. He scrambles every time we open or close it.
