so they like to be up high. I keep my pair in one cage that is 4' X 5' x 18" deep. The back of the cage is peg board and the other three sides are wire mesh. Yes, wire mesh. Spilotes seem to like the cage to feel as open as possible and they stress less. IMHO. My cage sits on top of one of my modular unit so it sits up almost to the ceiling. Now some people have theirs in large rubbermaids and they say the snakes are doing fine. I have lots of fake branches made for reptiles in the cage for them to crawl on. Temp should be in the 80-90 degree range and humidity up some. I don't have high humidity where I live so I lightly spray them once in awhile, especially after they come out of blue eye. Keep a large filled water bowl om the cage floor when they get large. Get ready to do some heavy feedings. The adults pound 3-4 rats or more each for a feeding and they can down a rat in seconds. They're not constrictors. My spilotes love baby chicks too. They have high metabolism so they deficate in a day or so after eating. A baby captive spilotes should be an easier start. Alot of us opted to get imports to get them sooner and less expensive. My first male that came from Costa Rica never really ate and didn't make it. There's not much published on husbandry, you just have to ask alot of questions as they come up. As it was stated, alot of the spilotes keepers also have indigos and cribos so you can post on that forum for responses. Although they usually make a spilotes post on this forum. Good luck.
