North American rat snakes and corn snakes are all of the same Genus (Elaphe), so they're a lot more closely related than being of the same Family (Colubridae = non-poisonous snakes having a flattened head and a long, tapering tail).
I'd have to say that I believe Dwight Good has more experience with Yellows than practically anyone else posting here (except, perhaps Kathy Love).
